Toronto-based (now re-located to BC) singer Lights has been around for a good handful of years now, having gotten first recognition through Old Navy commercials. She is constantly releasing music that will always be magic for my ears. I will categorize her music in the “synthpop” genre, and she does the genre justice. Her music is usually fairly easy listening, but when the beat drops on some tracks you have to let yourself stop and feel those musical interludes, sometimes accompanied by her vocals. I’ve seen her live a couple times now and she brings it up to a whole new level of sound. Having released an array of albums and EPs, I will say that Siberia is the standout in the collection, and if you like that album but find the music gets too electronic at times, she’s gone a step further to ease your ears with an acoustic version of the entire album as well! I always listen to my full iPhone library on shuffle in my car, but her Siberia cd is one of the only physical copies that I carry in my car, just in case of emergency. The super fan in me didn’t stop with the music, I also needed the merchandise. So with that said, I own the toque, a t-shirt, and a signed and numbered art print that she drew/painted herself! Yes, my collection will keep growing.
