For my first music recommendation, I’m going to recommend the discography of the band, The xx. Their music genre has been named many things, but I’m just going to call it sultry dream pop. I’ve even gone as far as to describe their sound as “the music that would play in a movie during a scene with a lot of romantic tension”, and I’m sticking by that description. The band only has two albums out at the moment, xx and Coexist, as well a song featured on the highly acclaimed soundtrack to The Great Gatsby. They are not one of those bands that try to make their songs all sound a bit different from one another, as they stick to their one style, but it’s effective music to be in a trance to. The Coexist album has a slightly more mature sound than the first, which I was a bit skeptical about at first, but eventually started to like it and play it as much as the first. I usually end up playing through their albums while working because each song blends so well into the next, but I still manage to pick out favourites. Give their music a listen is you like what I’ve been trying to describe.
