Movie List 2014: 4-6

blog-movies2014-2

So far it might just look like I’m only watching rom-coms and chick flicks, but rest assured, there will be a variety of genres in my list soon enough! Towards the end of last year I watched a handful of movies that weren’t that great, so I’ve been watching movies that I already know are great, and then a new movie every here and there. Here is the next set of 3 movies that I’ve seen this year.

› 4. Frances Ha — Almost every “Best Movies of 2013” list seemed to mention this movie, so that means I’ve got to at least give it a chance. I’m a fan of Greta Gerwig and was excited to watch this film because she helped write it as well. This movie is in black and white, not something common these days, but after a while I forgot everything was black and white. The movie reminded me a lot of the show Girls with some of the way things were acted out, and Adam Driver also had a supporting role to make it even more similar. I’m glad I watched it, but it’s not one of my favourites. 72/100

› 5. About Time — If someone tells you to watch this movie, watch it! I saw this movie in theatres when it was released and came out with one of the greatest post-screening feelings. I watched it again once it came online and it is still just as amazing. This movie isn’t a complete rom-com, but it is a very touching film and has funny scenes as well. I wouldn’t change a single scene at all, and now I find Domhnall Gleeson extremely charming. Bonus points for playing “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers, twice. 96/100

› 6. Because I Said So — This is a classy cheesy chick flick and I absolutely love it to pieces. No matter what I’m doing, I will always sit down to watch this movie if I see it on television. I had the urge to watch a Mandy Moore movie and picked this one to watch recently. The classic “sweet girl dates two boys” story, and I still love this movie and it’s comforting soundtrack every single time. Any appearance of Lauren Graham also gives me even more a reason to watch. Sometimes you just need a cheesy movie every now and then, and this fills that spot perfectly. 94/100
