Two music recommendations at once! These two ladies have recently released music that I’ve been listening to that fits under the same genre: country. I grew up listening to country so it’s no wonder that these two easily found their way into my iTunes and being played quite frequently. Country music just goes that much better with summer, so here are my two country favourites of the moment!
First up is Lucy Hale. She started with a music career when she was quite young, but switched to acting and is mostly known for her role on Pretty Little Liars. She made the surprising announcement that she was releasing a country music album and I was looking forward to hearing what she would bring into the world of country music. The time has finally come and her debut album was released yesterday, even though several songs had been released previously leading up the the album release. Her first album, Road Between, is something I’d compare to Taylor Swift’s first album – very country. People that thought she would make a country-pop album would be surprised to see that this album is very heavy on the country side and may not make it to pop music radio stations. I’m liking most of the songs I’ve heard so far and am excited to see where this career path will take her in the future!

The second country singer is Jana Kramer. This is another case of actress turned country singer, as she had roles on television shows, most known for her role on One Tree Hill where she started releasing samples of her recordings. I was instantly a fan when I started hearing her music and waited for a full album release hoping everything was just as fantastic. I was not let down at all as the whole album was great from beginning to end. There wasn’t a track that I didn’t like, and that is something rare these days. She also released a cover song on the Footloose remake soundtrack that added to her list of great tracks. Now on the verge of releasing a second album, Jana has released a new single last week that has already been building up a play count on my iTunes and I anxiously waiting to see what the next album will have in store! Her sound is a bit more mature than Lucy Hale’s, but not by much. A great mix of songs from joyful and fun tracks, to the more emotional and heartbreaking songs. It’s really hard to pick favourites when you love an entire album, but I will give it a try. If you like country music – then I’d just suggest listening to everything she has released.
