I’m quite known for my coffee addiction, which has been super hard to break. Once in a while I will buy a tea flavour and try it a few times, and then switch back to coffee as my main source of caffeine. Lately I have noticed that I will always order chai tea lattes over any coffee or espresso based beverage at Starbucks and Second Cup, so I knew a change was in the air. I was just hoping one of these times I would be able to make the switch to picking tea over coffee as an everyday choice. This has finally changed! This past week I’ve discovered the delight of some new tea flavours that I am obsessed with already. I will divide this post up by tea brand, featuring two amazing loose leaf tea flavours from each.
The first brand I’m going to talk about is a brand new discovery for me. This brand is based in Toronto and it called Tea Squared. The packaging won me over while I was walking through Sobey’s buying lunch. I was on the hunt for a particular flavour of tea. I ended up picking up the loose leaf tea bag in the flavour Roasted Apple Chai. I cannot get enough of this tea because I can’t stop drinking it! I decided to keep this loose leaf tea in my office, just because I didn’t want to have to bring it back and forth to work every day. But because I loved that tea so much, on my way home from work I decided to check a grocery story close to my house in hopes I could pick up a second bag for home. Luckily they carried the tea brand, but only a couple of flavours were available, not including the one I was after. I made the decision to pick up a second flavour anyways and purchased Kombucha Detox. It has all the benefits of kombucha drinks which are becoming wildly popular these days, but this just happened to be in the form of tea. I am comparing this drink’s scent and flavour to that of a grapefruit flavoured NeoCitran. I’m really intrigued to try some of their other flavours because they sound delicious.
You can’t get away with talking about tea and not mentioning everyone’s favourite, David’s Tea. I have purchased a few flavours over the years that I’ve known about this company, now with more access because one opened in my hometown. I recently walked through on a whim and of all the flavours, I picked up the Pumpkin Chai black tea. I am not crazy about pumpkin flavoured food and drinks, but the really cute seasonal tin can it came in was really appealing to me. Also, the sample glass of the tea leaves had a very delicious scent. Upon drinking this tea finally, it was better than I even imagined! The only pumpkin bits in the tea were little pumpkin candies. I tend to only take my tea with agave nectar syrup, so this flavour was still naturally quite sweet due to small caramel bits in the loose leaf tea. Moving along to a non-seasonal flavour of tea, this one was a tea I had seen many times in the store, but never actually tried. I found out the Natasha had purchased this and was looking for a caffeinated tea to start off this whole whirlwind romance with teas this past week. She let me try her Love Tea #7. Instantly fell in love with this chocolate, strawberry, and rose mixture of a flavour. It taste similar to chocolate cherries, but in a tea. Definitely hits it out of the ball park for my sweet tooth! Once I start working my way through my tea collection I will be picking up this flavour for myself. I’m hoping they release it in some sort of limited edition tin can around Valentine’s Day.
I may do another tea flavour round up if this new found love of tea continues through the seasons. Here’s hoping I can keep this up for quite some time!
