It’s playlist time! I thought I would deliver a non-Christmas playlist in December to start off the first half of the month, but I may still consider putting out a favourite Christmas song playlist right before the big day. Here are some of the tracks that I have been loving lately and think you should give them a listen.
“Always” by The Veronicas · They’re back! I’ve been a fan of the aussie twin sisters Lisa and Jess Origliasso since they first came on the music scene back in 2005. After two albums, they have been “quiet” for at least seven years now and just made a major comeback with their new self-titled third album. There are so many great tracks, but if I had to pick just one it would definitely be “Always”. This song is a slightly different approach to the typical pop or rockier music they have released before. It’s not quite a slow song, but not a faster dance track either. It’s a heartbreaking-sounding love song with a beat. The lyrics are perfection throughout the entire song and their vocals match it perfectly. Definitely check out the whole album, the girls definitely brought it back full force with the one!
“Roll The Bones (Live)” by Shakey Graves · I don’t know why I haven’t put this any any previous playlists over the past couple months because this song is one that I’ve really, really loved lately! Yes I know there is a studio quality version of this song, but it’s the Audiotree Live version that just nails it! One man singing and providing all the instrumental noise equals a perfect song that you just feel is making you a little more southern and wicked by the second. Some people may not catch the words upon first listen because of the strained vocals, but they sound like gold to my ears. Definitely check out the live version online, it’s one you won’t want to miss!
“Every Other Freckly” by The Alt-J · I’ve got to hand it to Alt-J, otherwise symbolized as ∆, because their newest album release is their best yet! I have loved their single “Tessellate” for a while now, but I think this might be my new favourite song by them. This song was featured in a British television show and perfectly matched the scenes, so I obviously had to look up what song it was and found it without a problem. Thanks to finding this song I’ve checked out a lot more tracks off their new album and really like what I’m hearing!
“Let It Go (Bearson Remix)” by James Bay · This has no relation to that Frozen track that has been greatly overplayed over the past year. I heard the remix of this song before the original and came to the conclusion that they are both amazing, I just prefer this one a tad bit better. Another bittersweet song with a beat, this track is great to bob your head to while driving and sing along when you think you have the same vocal skills.
“When You Were Mine” by Night Terrors of 1927 featuring Tegan and Sara · I heard a little bit about this track through Tegan and Sara’s social media before it came out, but saw the music video online and instantly knew this song was going to be a favourite of mine this month. It sounds like your average sound that gets overplayed on the radio every half hour, but I’ll enjoy it until I play it one too many times myself. You have to love everything that Tegan and Sara touch these days because it’s always fantastic.
“Stay Awhile” by The She & Him · Relaxing music at it’s finest, Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward’s band She & Him have released a new album of classic hits and the first single is the perfect song for a classy lazy weekend soundtrack. Zooey’s vocals are as classical as they’re ever going to get and it makes me want to lounge around in my pajamas, drinking tea, and ballroom dancing myself from room to room in red lipstick if I felt like giving a little extra effort. Okay, so I am pretty much saying I want to be Zooey Deschanel and that is a true fact.
