I was making a list for the past two weeks of songs that I wanted to make the new playlist with for a part two of the April playlist, but that never happened. Here was are in May and I have six songs that I need to discuss in order to get you all to listen to them now! Onwards to the music…
“Lonely Town” by Brandon Flowers. I love The Killers, but I also love solo music by Brandon Flowers. His first solo album was a great one, and whenever he does a live cover of “Better David Eyes” it reminds me how much I love him. His newly released music from his next solo album has been good so far, but then came along this song and I was completely blown away. The music video may be a big reason why I love it (click here to head on over to YouTube to give it a watch), but still I love jamming out and dancing around to this song whenever I play it now. Definitely my favourite of the new songs of far!
“Want To Want Me” by Travis Garland. Yes, this is a more acoustic cover of the Jason Derulo song. There is something special when it comes to Travis Garland covering a song and that is the fact that he makes it so much better. This does not have any sort of official release with it, but I have watched the video of this song too many times already and am completely hypnotized by it. If you do not know that much about Mr. Garland, then you can do some catch up on my blog post I did about him here quite a while back.
“Crystals” by Of Monster and Men. I am anticipating a great new album from Of Monsters and Men after hearing the first single. It is a bit of their original sound mixed with a new wave of sounds that are going to make their songs all the more powerful! That’s all I’ve really got to say about this one.
“Where Are Ü Now” by Skrillex & Diplo featuring Justin Bieber. Jumping on the bandwagon of love for this song and slowly dragging people on for the ride with me. I define this as a Skrillex song, but with a tropical vibe and Justin Bieber’s vocals. My sister can laugh at my “tropical” comment as much as she wants, but I am not alone on this opinion. The beat just gets me in the mood to dance around and be excited. Another Bieber song that I actually really like. Good job!
“Having You Around” by July Talk. I have been hearing about July Talk for quite a while now and occasionally heard their songs on the radio, but when I finally gave in to download the album it was this track that really caught my attention. They are really known for their in your face more dirty rock-like songs, but this slower track is just as great in my mind. A melancholy instrumental background with the sadder sounding vocals, but still comes off as a bit (bitter)sweet in my mind. Definitely give this one a listen if you want to hear them do something a little bit different.
“Call If Off” by Tegan and Sara. The credit for this one goes directly to my sister and her Tegan and Sara craze state of mind that she has been in for the past while. While rediscovering all their music, I finally listened to this song (maybe for the first time) and I absolutely love it now! Surprisingly this song fits in well after the July Talk song and they sound very similar now that I think about it, but still a bit more quiet than the July Talk song. I always like to (re)discover songs by bands that I already know and like a lot and this was a great example of that.
