Happy month of May everyone! I’m going to start off the month with a music recommendation from one of my current favourites. Where do I even begin to start talking about Sam Smith? He is an incredible singer and makes amazing music. That can be said about a lot of people, but what sets him above a lot of the others is his smooth soulful pop music. That line does not do him justice at all. He hasn’t even released his first full length album yet, due later this month, but there is so much buzz about him due to his featured vocals on Disclosure’s song “Latch” which is so infectiously catchy, in all the right ways. Switching from the beats that make you want to get up and dance in that song, a lot of his other songs released have been a lot slower and very bittersweet sounding. Bittersweet in all the right ways of course! These are songs that you can listen to and they can either make or break you at any moment. His first album is going to be called In the Lonely Hour and is going to be all about unrequited love from his personal experience so it sounds like every song is going to follow suit with the few tracks that have been released thus far, so I’m excited for all of these new heartfelt, soulful, bittersweet love songs.
So if you find me somewhere listening to Sam Smith, you better believe I’ll be either belting it out when I’m driving in my car and definitely missing the high note in the chorus of “Nirvana”, or I’ll be lip syncing it to the best of my ability if in a quieter environment. I was saddened to have missing getting tickets to his concert in Toronto very recently, but I’ll just cope with listening to his songs on repeat until the full album gets released.
› Favourite tracks: “Stay With Me”, “Nirvana”, “Latch” (Disclosure featuring Sam Smith), and “Make It To Me”.
