Five Favourites: Alyssa

Next up in the Five Favourites series is my friend Alyssa! She has kindly accepted the challenge of sending me a list of her favourite products and I am here to present you with her thoughts. She has unfortunately accompanied me through Shoppers Drug Mart a few times and we have, or mostly just I have, picked up more than we are looking for during most visits. I enable her to want a lot of things from Sephora, but I believe she has the will power to put those products to the back of her mind, or she is just really good at not telling me how much money she spent without telling me. Just as before, I’ve added in a couple “Nicole’s Edit” add-ons to add my own notes on some of the items she has listed. Here is what Alyssa had to say!

When Nicole asked me if I was interested in contributing a guest feature about my top five favourite products, my first reaction was an enthusiastic ‘YES’. My second reaction was the mortified thought of having to actually narrow my collection down to five products because there are a ton that I have been fond of as of late. Instead of focusing on just makeup or skin care or hair, I decided to give some of my favourites for each! Without further adieu…

1) Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Siren

To say I’m obsessed with this product, and specifically the colour, would be an understatement. The colour is a vibrant red-orange and perfect for summer! As for the product itself, I’ve always been a big fan of Revlon for offering high quality products for drug store prices. This product in particular really impressed me. The lipstick has great coverage and stays on throughout the majority of the day as I tend to only re-apply once after I’ve had lunch in the early afternoon. You can apply one layer which makes for a subtle and sheer addiction to your makeup look, or build it up to be a bold accent to your #LOTD! The lipstick is creamy and soft and doesn’t dry out my lips or crack like many other lipsticks I’ve tried. With so many great shades to choose from I would highly recommend this product to anyone! Nicole’s Edit: I was with her when she made this lipstick purchase and she has been quite ecstatic about this lipstick ever since. Definitely a fantastic bright colour for the summer season!

2) Hard Candy So Baked Contour Trio

Anyone who knows me knows I am a huge contour fanatic. I had recently run out of my bronzer (when I say “run out”, what I actually mean is the compact fell and shattered dusting my floor and surrounding items), and was in the market for a new one. I hadn’t fallen in love with a contouring product so I was excited when I stumbled upon this contour trio by Hard Candy. The product itself is available in a variety of shades to suit a variety of skin tones and personal preferences, and contains a bronzer, a highlighter, and a blush. What I love most about this product, besides the packaging, is that I get everything I need for contouring in the same product for a fraction of the price! The illuminating highlighter, glowing bronzer, and satin-finish blush make for the perfect contouring combination.

3) Urban Decay Brow Box in Honey Pot

On days where I don’t wear foundation or mascara, my two must-haves are lipstick and, you guessed it, #strongeyebrowgame! When I made the transition from brunette to blonde, I needed to find a new eyebrow powder. I had used eyebrow pencils for a long time, but really liked how natural the powder looked and decided to make the switch. After already being a UD fan, it seemed like a natural progression to try their Brow Box in the shade Honey Pot to match my newly lightened locks. I am in love with this product. It matches my hair perfectly and ensures my eyebrows look natural so the only one who knows my actual hair colour, is me!

4) Yes to Tomatoes Acne Control Gel Cleanser

I will first start off by saying I knew nothing about this product or product line before purchasing, and was utterly and completely suckered in by the packaging (am I in marketing or what?). I struggled with acne as a teenager and would still never consider myself to have ‘flawless’ or ‘clear’ skin. Sometimes, after using the same product for a significantly long time, I am convinced my skin has become immune to said product and vow to find something new. That’s what happened in this situation. I love this product. I feel confident applying it to my skin and I am happy with how clean and refreshed my skin feels after using it. My breakouts are minimal to begin with so this product does a fantastic job of keeping them under control. Another thing to note is that this product lasts forever! There’s a ton in the bottle and you only have to utilize a little bit at a time for results which makes it so much more worth it! Nicole’s Edit: I often fall victim to my skin becoming immune to certain acne control products, so I may need to try out some other products from the Tomatoes acne control range myself. I did try to facial wipes not long ago and don’t remember them doing anything spectacular for my skin.

5) Body Shop Perfume in White Musk Original

White Musk has been my scent since my second year of college. I generally steer clear of any sort of perfumes because I’m very sensitive to strong scents. I found myself in The Body Shop one day and the name of this scent caught my eye. I decided to test it out on a strip and not my skin so it wouldn’t have to follow me all day if I didn’t like it. I was pleasantly surprised with how subtle yet powerful the scent was! This non-offensive scent instantly became my new best friend as I splurged to purchase the largest available bottle. They have recently released White Musk Smokey Rose and White Musk Libertine, neither of which I like nearly as much as the original scent. I would highly recommend this product to anyone with sensitivities, or for someone looking to switch up their signature scent. You won’t be disappointed!

Don’t forget to send me an email if you’re interested in guest blogging about five of your favourite items! My contact form was not working, so if you did by chance submit something that way, please contact me again because I’d love to work with you!
