August Empties

I know it’s not anywhere near the end of August yet, but I’ve had a small bucket of empty products waiting to write this post so I thought I would go ahead and get this post written so I can finally toss out the empty containers. I’ve got a lot of hair related products in this bunch, and some other random beauty products. Let’s dive in!

First up, it has taken me almost a full year to finish off this due from the Aveda Invati Collection. The Exfoliating Shampoo and Thickening Conditioner were part of perk from an old internship of mine and I was excited to finally try out some items from Aveda after hearing so many good things about the brand. I am sitting on the fence when it comes to the shampoo because it was a lot more liquid-based than I prefer my shampoos, which made it harder to lather up. This is why I kept buying other shampoos and this took so much longer to finally finish. The conditioner on the other hand seemed to be the formula of a regular conditioner and was very moisturizing to my hair during my regular shower routine. I’m not exactly sure if it helped make my hair feel or look thicker as I had been using another thickening product after getting out of the shower. Towards the end of their lives in my shower, my sister started using them and was actually quite impressed with them saying “whatever they are doing to my hair, I like it!” – so there is a second opinion on the products from her. I likely won’t be purchasing these products again for myself, but maybe for her, as I have found other shampoos and conditioners that give better results that I am looking for.

Continuing on with hair products, I’ve finished two travel-sized spray bottle products. Both were items in some of the Ipsy glam bags I received before I cancelled my subscription to save that little bit of cash each month. First is the Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray. This smells like a fruity topical summer scent and adds that extra salt water texture to your hair. It doesn’t beat the classic holy grail Surf Spray, but it a great item to hold me over until I go repurchase that one shortly. Secondly, I finished up the Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner. I’m not used to spraying a leave in conditioner in my hair after the shower but I thought I’d try this one out if the end result was beneficial to my hair. It did help detangle my hair and help make it soft when brushing through it. I’m not sure if I would repurchase any of these, but they are probably really good alternatives to some of the more expensive products on the market these days.

A body wash and a body scrub were both finished recently! For the body wash, my grandmother gifted me the St. Ives Indulgent Coconut Milk Body Wash which she had purchased on accident instead of another product. At first sniff, I thought it smelt like candied coconut which may come off strong to a lot of people. I used it all up though, and rather quickly, and I will admit that St. Ives knows its body washes! That’s only the second one I’ve tried from the brand but have really liked both of them. This one is a lot more creamy and moisturizing due to the milkiness of the formula. You can go without a body moisturizer or body butter with how soft and smooth it makes your skin feel. It’s a bonus because it’s actually a cheap product and delivers excellent results! As for the body scrub, I’ve finished up the Early-Harvet Raspberry Body Scrub from The Body Shop. A real treat for any raspberry fans, me included. The consistency of raspberry jam, and a good scrubbing power to get the job done. I would repurchase this for the amazing scent alone, but it also a great product.

I’ve got three items that don’t fit into the bath and hair care category, and I was sad to have finished all three of these products up. Most importantly, the Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray. A bad thing to run out in the middle of summer, but it had to happen to someone. This product is one of the best when it comes to setting your makeup for the day and keeping all oils at bay. I quickly repurchased this one so I was only a day or two without it. I highly recommend checking out the setting sprays from this brand to everyone who needs help keeping their makeup on their face throughout the day! I was saddened to run out of the Smashbox Photo Finish More Than Primer in the “Blemish Control” formula. I picked this product up when it was first released into Sephora and hoped it worked because that is quite the expensive primer! It definitely did it’s job when it comes to priming the face for makeup and evening out the skin’s surface, but I’m not sure how great of a job it did with blemishes. I’m holding off on repurchasing this because of the price. I’m using up all my other primers and samples before I make the decision on which full-size primer I buy in the future. Lastly, I finished up my Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. This is also a pricey product, and such a small little container but it did last me quite a long time! This eye cream is part of the GinZing set which promotes awakens and brightness within it’s range of items. I was using this along with the face moisturizer and I felt like the scent alone would wake me up with a punch of citrus to my nose. The eye cream itself is a shiny pale pink colour to help brighten the under eye area, which definitely came in handy every single day. I would add this to my repurchase list once I use up my other eye cream I had for backup.
