I’ve passed by this somewhat recent release of a product on several different trips through Sephora and it caught my eye every single time. I’m pretty sure the font and packaging alone could have sold me on the product and that’s definitely the graphic designer side of me making impulsive purchasing decisions. Beautiful packaging alone didn’t do the trick though. When I attended Sephora’s VIB Rouge Reception event a couple days ago I was browsing the Too Faced product display and found myself staring at the range of melted lipsticks, but this time I started swatching a few on the back of my hand. I had gone past the packaging this time!
I overheard the sales lady say that she was wearing the melted lipstick in the dusty rose shade, Melted Peony, and I thought to myself that it was such a nice everyday pink colour. That product went straight into my basket. I don’t own very many soft neutral pink coloured lip products, so I thought this would be a good product to test it out. The concept of a liquid lipstick seemed weird to me, but I’m always in to give a new makeup product the benefit of the doubt. The sales lady went on to explain that there were three brand new shades released as part of the fall collection and showed my friend and I to those additional shades. We instantly fell in love with the new rosy orchid shade, Melted Fig, and we both ended up deciding to buy that one.
I tested out the lighter rose shade within the hour as I couldn’t wait much longer. When I first applied the product, I only put it on in very small amounts out the end of the tube. It created a faded, less shiny version of the rose shade. The more I layered on it started to build up the colour and glossiness to my lips. I like that this product really allows you to decide how much you want to apply and how much you want to build on it. The next morning I tried the darker orchid shade. Again, I did not build it up very much as it was quite the darker bold colour for a morning lipstick look. I would not say that this product would last all the way through a full meal, but possibly just snacks without having to reapply. I wiped my mouth after lunch forgetting that I had the lipstick on but it almost all came off in one swipe and did not create a mess. I did build on the lip product in the evening and it definitely builds up to a glossier and bolder colour.
Final Thoughts: I love the colour range and the ability to build the colour from a faded matte look to bolder glossier look. Unfortunately, the long wearing part did not exactly ring true during my first experience with the lipstick, but I will keep experimenting with it to see how it reacts in different daily routines.
