Here we are welcoming in the autumn season and I find myself scrambling to search through my room to talk about my favourite things of the past month. I told myself that I wouldn’t let this month slide by and have to do another combined favourites post next month. So I’ve managed to grab a few of my favourite things from the month of September.
My first favourite is an obvious choice. Before the release of the new iPhone 6 I realized I was able to upgrade my iPhone 4s for a decent price. I decided to get the champagne gold iPhone 5s and have been loving it since it was placed in my hand. I had ordered a really cool phone case directly after I got home, but it hasn’t arrived yet. Knowing that I couldn’t walk around with an unprotected phone, I bought a clear case off of Amazon.ca with quick shipping and was able to put it on my phone just two days later. I am very happy I finally upgraded and was able to get my hands on the gold version of the phone. I never used to like gold as one of the metallic colours, but lately I’ve been all over the gold and rose gold options of everything.
My next favourite of the month is not an item, but an action. Cleaning and organizing. For the longest time I have been slowly trying to clean sections of my room and throw away things I don’t need anymore. I’m known to be a little bit of a hoarder, keeping anything and everything with the tiniest bit of significance to it, but I’ve forced myself to try to purge away some of the clutter in my room. I was very productive over the last week, and know I’m not finished yet! This action also continues to clearing out some of my iTunes library, discarding a lot of songs I know I won’t be listening to anytime soon. Trust me, this was a good thing. Teenage Nicole and all her High School Musical and Hannah Montana days are officially gone. Yes I just admitted that, but only to show how important it is to declutter once in a while.
Within the last days of the month I took notice to how badly my roots were coming in and debated taking action to dye my hair and how I should go about it this time around. I have been known to dye my hair frequently and tended to change up the colour over the years from blonde to red to black and just about everything in between at once point or another. Over the past year I stuck with an ombre that I loved, going over a year without colouring my hair at all. Finally this past summer I re-ombred it, but it didn’t end up being as good as the previous one as my roots did not come in so gracefully this time around. I made the decision to dye my hair to an overall colour that closest matched my natural hair colour and see how that grows in over time. I picked up a darker ash blonde box dye and then dealt with this instantly once I got home. A lot of people cannot tell a different unless they study my hair long enough, but to me it was quite a drastic change from warm toned hair to a much cooler, ash blonde. I made it a goal to find the furthest thing away from a warm-toned hair colour and was successful. Click here to see my first Instagram photo posted with the new hair colour. I noticed that my face and makeup looks much warmer in comparison now and may have to slightly change my makeup routine ever-so-slighty with this much more autumn-like hair colour.
Where are the beauty favourites you may be asking? Well here is a beauty item for those of you looking for one. My favourite beauty item of the month is actually my Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm. I did a whole post about my switch from full coverage foundations to this specific product here if you want to read more about it. I’ve been using this BB cream for over a month now and I am still very impressed with how much I like it. I used to aim for an airbrushed finish with the heavier foundations, but I have been really happy with the finish this product gives and will likely be sticking with this base product for quite a while!
It’s been a while since I mentioned a candle at all on the blog and I’ve started making it a goal to burn through the ones I have before going to purchase any new ones. One of my favourites of the past month has been the Voluspa French Bourbon Vanille Coconut Wax Blend Candle. Let me start by saying that the packaging alone completely won me over at first glance, but the smell is a nice soft subtle vanilla scent that freshens up the room whenever I light it. I’m about half way through it and know I’ve still got many burning hours left on this one!
Lastly, I will throw in a fashion item because it would be cruel of me to leave these beauties out. I’ve been on a search for a new pair of heeled boots for quite a while now, as all of my older boots had kicked the can and I was in the market for a new pair. I’d like to introduce you to my brand new pair of Aldo Elidia Boots! After wearing flat shoes in the form of Toms or flip-flops for so long, it took me a day or two to get used to wearing these nearly 4 inch heeled boots for full days. I am already back to being able to run in these heels, so it’s safe to say that these leather boots have definitely won me over and are here to stay!
