Welcome back to the kitchen! I’ve been on an apple kick lately so I thought I would take the chance to give you two really simple and easy apple recipes for snacks that each use a full apple as the main ingredient. You know the old saying “an apple a day keeps the doctor away”? Let’s see if we can swap in these snacks over the less healthy snacks we’ve been munching on lately and avoid getting sick this year.
Cinnamon Apple Bites. Probably the easiest thing in the world to prepare, but is still a great substitute for chips or cookies when in a pinch for time and want to try to stay healthy. For this recipe all you have to do is cut up an apple into smaller bite-sized pieces, sprinkle with as much cinnamon as you’d like, add a very small amount of vanilla extract for flavour (this ingredient is optional), and then microwave for 45-60 seconds. There you have yourself some finger food to snack on while doing some other tasks!
Apple Pie Smoothie. If you’re more of a smoothie person you can try out this quick and easy recipe for a tasty smoothie that packs a punch with the flavour of an apple, but then becomes a little something more. For this recipe all you have to do is cut up an apple, just like the previous recipe, and put into your blender. Sprinkle in a good amount of cinnamon, as much as you want or as little. Add in additional ingredients such as chia seeds and hemp hearts for extra nutritional value, but it won’t change the overall flavour. I went ahead and sprinkled in a bit of granola for that crust-like taste to really make it resemble an apple pie. Add in your milk of choice to help liquify your creation your desired smoothie thickness and blend away. You will be left with a very slightly chunky smoothie depending on how long you blend for, and a taste that resembles that classic apple pie – but in smoothie form. This is definitely my new favourite smoothie recipe! This does not create the largest size of a smoothie, so double it up if it’s not just a quick snack sized smoothie.
I told you these snacks were super easy to make, it almost seems common sense. Enjoy these snacks and be sure to let me know in the comments if you try either of these recipes out!
