It may not seem like it quite yet, due to the never-ending heat wave that I am currently experiencing, but we are nearing the autumn season. As season change, products are changed up and swapped with others to suit the season better. I previously wrote about my fragrance switch up a few days ago, but now it is time to discuss all the beauty products. I am not going to include every single step in the makeup routine, but I am going to cover most areas of my routine as possible.
Base. I am still technically trying to stick to my whole “trying to wear less makeup” goal that I made for myself at the beginning of the year. I have definitely switched from using medium to full coverage foundation every single day to maybe only a couple times a week. This is mostly because I am still in love with the Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Beauty Balm. This has been my holy grail base product of the year so far and I am noticing that it is becoming harder and harder to purchase for me. when I finished my first tube of it, it had been taken out of Sephora and was only available on the online store, and it is currently sitting at an “out of stock” status on the website. I am not running out in the next few weeks, but eventually I will need to replace this one with a new tube or something just as amazing. I find the coverage of this BB cream to be a light to medium coverage, evening out your complexion perfectly with just the perfect amount of coverage each and every time. There is only one shade of this product and for some magical reason it works for my rather fair skin tone. No complaints here about that! The pump on the end makes this super easy to dispense from the tube and I am going to be really upset if I have to start the search for a new BB or CC cream to replace this one. A mention desfinitely still goes to the tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Full Coverage Foundation because it has been my favourite full coverage foundation for quite some time and I will likely be sticking with this one for quite a while.
Conceal. Enough about the foundation, let’s move on to the concealer. When I need that little bit of extra help concealing red spots and other face demons, especially for when I pick a lighter coverage foundation, then I rely on my Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer because it is super light, but packs a punch in the coverage department. I currently use the shade Fair Neutral and find that it acts well as an under eye concealer and brightener as well as a concealer for covering the spots you need help concealing.
Contour, highlight, blush. I could go as far as naming one product that can do all three of these things by simply praising the Korres Magic Light Contouring Trio in the shade Santorini, but for now I will just name that as my bronzer/contour product of choice. I have reached for this more than any other product over the past month and a bit when it comes to bringing warmth and definition to my face. For highlight, I will mention my favourite for most of the year, which is the Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder Compact in Hightlight. You can build up this highlight or layer it with other highlights is needed, but I find it works well for me both in daytime and nighttime applications. Picking a blush can be a bit tricky because I shift between my different blushes all the time, but I think for this autumn season makeup menu I will choosing the Benefit Cosmetics Hervana Box o’ Powder Blush because it was one of the blushes that I found never got enough attention when it first came out. The beautiful range of colours found in this blush combine together to create a really lovely orchid-blossom blush with a soft satin finish. Perfect for autumn.
Eyes. I have started experimenting with my smokey eyes already, which is something I hardly ever attempt to do. I found that my favourite palette of the past week has been The Balm Cosmetics NUDE‘tude Nude Eyeshadow Palette. It has everything from very light natural shades to very dark and rich shades to really smoke out any eye look. There are tons of great palettes out there, especially from Urban Decay, Too Faced, and Lorac, but this has been the one I have used a lot lately. As for eye liner, I have gone back to the original Kat Von D Five Fearless Years Limited Edition Tattoo Liner in the black Trooper shade. I picked up the limited edition version just because I thought it was cool to own it. The brush tip is really easy to use and I prefer this one much more than the Ink Liner from this brand. I really don’t tend to use mascara these days, but on the rare occasion that I do, it will be one of the mascaras mentioned in this blog post.
Lips. The deeper red and berry shades are back in style! They never went anywhere in my mind, but I know that brighter and pinker shades are usually seen around the spring and summer months. As we embark on the season of changing leaf colours and pumpkin spice everything, the lipstick shades are going to start getting darker and more berry-toned. When I first start using lipsticks, I found comfort in the raspberry-like shades, so autumn lipstick shades feel pretty natural to me. Two of my favourite fall lip colours that I am going to shine the spotlight on today are the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Bauhau5 (deep raspberry) and NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Majella (garnet red). I am sure I will find a new favourite soon enough, but for now those are the ones I am going to mention.
That’s it for my autumn makeup menu update! I hope you are all just as excited as me and that you are fully ready to embrace the autumn season. I have been trying not to drive in with the nail polish as well, but I may be currently sporting deep red nails and dark blue toenails, but for my upcoming trip to Mexico I will be sporting bright summer nails one last time before I completely head over to the dark side for autumn. Stay tuned for that autumn nail polish blog post within the next several weeks!
