My little collection of lip kits.
I was not late to the party when it comes to hearing about the Kylie Cosmetics lip kits, I just decided not to give into the temptation for quite a long time. I almost gave into temptation earlier in the year, but that is when being sold out was a lot more common. A month ago I finally gave in and placed an order for my first two lip kits, Candy K and Posie K.
After only a couple days of playing around with these two shades, a limited offer on better international shipping went out. Taking this as a sign, I placed a second order to round out my collection of lip kits with two more shades. I ordered Dolce K and 22, which I have now had for a couple days. I feel that I have tried them each for a full wear in order to give an honest personal opinion.
Branding and packaging.
I really love the branding for all of Kylie Cosmetics. As a designer, I easily spot out branding that I like in an instant. The bold “KYLIE” letters are recognizable in a crowd of packaging for sure. The design on the boxes is really clever and it is really easy to see which shade is in each box. Although the colour on the box may not match the shade perfectly, it is pretty close. The “dripping lipstick” design makes it easy to pick out a tube of lipstick, with the see-through tube to spot which colour you want in an instant. I kind of wish they stuck with the bold KYLIE letters on the packaging, but her signature branding also works well.
The formula.
I had read many articles comparing the formula of these matte liquid lipsticks to the ones that ColourPop makes. I can see how they are similar, but still think that there is a slight difference between them. They are quite long lasting and very easy to apply, but I might actually prefer the Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipsticks a tiny bit more. They lasted through a lot of wear, maybe not surviving through a messy chicken wing dinner, but otherwise the transfer was very minimal after many hours of wear.
The shades.
To round out my collection, I have four different shades that cover a lot of the lipstick shade spectrum. Candy K is a warm pinky nude, the lightest of the shades I own. Posie K is a cool mid-tone berry, a colour I usually gravitate towards. A must have for autumn! Dolce K is a deep beige nude and I don’t own many shades like this in my collection. I thought it would be cool to experience with. For me, it wears as a bit of a mauve-grey shade. Lastly, a vibrant burnt orange called 22. Every collection needs a red. I steered away from the more classic Mary Jo K to go for this more orange-toned shade. This shade wears red for me, but a rusted red that gives it a more orange pigment. There are a few other shades I would love to add to my collection (*cough* Love Bite *cough*), but I am happy with the shades I own for now.
Overall I am a big fan of these liquid lipsticks and am really glad that I purchased them finally. Have you tried any of the Kylie Cosmetics lip kits or any other of the products from the brand? Let me know in the comments below!
