I will admit that I “collect” make-up in a sense that I have multiple products in rotation instead of using just one or two on a day-to-day basis. I Having a ton of lipsticks is a little bit different because that is the one product you’re allowed to have every shade of, but when it comes to most other products you shouldn’t be deciding between five different products every morning. My biggest issue lately has been with deciding between primers because I have a good collection of full size, sample, and deluxe sample primers on my make-up shelf. I thought I would take a moment to go through them and give you an update with my thoughts on each of them, which may eventually lead to me putting a couple of them back into storage for the time being.
Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water. This is the newest and coolest addition to my primer collection and I think I am currently loving it the most only because it is in spray form. This makes for a much easier application in my opinion. The only thing I’m not 100% sure of is how it compares against the other gel-texture primers in the same product range from Smashbox when it comes to lasting throughout the day and how evenly it goes on even if I still smooth it on with my hands after a couple spritzes to my face. I haven’t noticed any make-up wearing off my face yet, so I will use this one most days.
Bourjois Paris Happy Light Matte Serum Primer. I had never tried anything from the Bourgeois Paris make-up range before and for some reason I thought this matte primer would be a nice introduction. My face does tend to get a bit shiny from time to time and this primer didn’t go out of its way to stop that from happening as time went on. I prefer my primers in a clear gel and this one it a light skin coloured gel that glides on to your face. As a regular primer it does a good job, but I’m not completely convinced with the matte finish aspect o fit.
Dr. Jart+ Pore Medic Pore Minish Primer. A clear gel primer that keeps my make-up on my face. Sold! I tried a sample of this one a while back and really liked it right away so I had it on my list of things to eventually buy from Sephora. It was being offered as a free deluxe sample with a recent one order so I opted for the deluxe sample size in the meantime to really give it a good try. I still really like it and reach for this if I don’t use the primer water one.
Smashbox Iconic Photo Finish Foundation Primer. This is the iconic primer that made Smashbox really well known for how great their primers are. Expensive, yes, but it does what it’s suppose to do. Simple as that! This was only a free sample version from one of many visits to Sephora but I enjoyed it and am a use or two away from emptying out the little tube.
Smashbox Photo Finish Oil Free Foundation Primer Pore Minimizing. This is also known as the purple one in the primer range. I don’t think I had even heard any buzz about this product before laying my eyes on it in Sephora and quickly made the decision to purchase it. Since then I have heard a lot of great reviews, mostly comparing it to the Benefit primer, but because this one is in a thicker fair skinned shade, and almost doesn’t glide on as easily as some others, I don’t really reach for it all that often. I also didn’t really notice any difference with my pores and if they were being minimized, so this was not the greatest from the primer range that I have tried so far.
